Scotland’s Population

2011 Census published 17 Dec 2012. Population increased to 5,295,000 a rise of approximately 5%. The highest ever recorded population. However, during the 20th century alone, principally due to lack of opportunity, Scotland lost almost 2 million of its brightest and best through emigration to other lands who benefited from their skills and experience. Had our migration flows been in balance over that century Scotland’s population would currently be standing at approximately eight million rather than five.
