MayGen Tidal Stream Project

The world’s first large-scale tidal energy farm Located in the wild Pentland Firth between the north coast of mainland Scotland and the Orkney Islands where tidal streams can reach speeds of five meters per second. The initial installation will be four 15 meter high 200 metric ton turbines, each of which will produce 1.5 megawatts of power. The completed scheme will see 269 turbines producing 398 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 175,000 homes. The entire project will be completed by the early 2020s.
