COCKBURN, Sir George GCB (1772-1853) Admiral of the Fleet RN

Diaspora: Born in London. His father was Sir James Cockburn, 8th Baronet of that important Scottish family. George had a long and distinguished naval carer, but is probably best known for his capture and burning of Washington in August 1814.
