Dandy Dinmont (Terrier)

A small Scottish terrier, the breed having been defined in the 18th century. Named after a character in Sir Walter Scott’s novel Guy Mannering, with Dandy Dinmont thought to be based on James Davidson who is credited with the foundation of the modern breed.

Golden Retriever

A sole yellow puppy from a litter of black wavy coated retrievers was mated with a Tweed Water-Spaniel from Ladykirk in 1868. This took place on Guisachan Estate at Tomich in Strathglass to the west of Loch Ness, and Lord Tweedmouth is then said to have methodically line-bred down from that mating.
