PATERSON, William “Stan” Stanley Bryce (1924-2013) Glaciologist
Born and educated in Edinburgh, he became one of the foremost glaciologists of the twentieth century. His award winning book “The Physics of Glaciers” , first published in 1969, and now in its fourth edition, is still the basic textbook for glaciologists around the world, and has been translated into many languages including Russian and Chinese. It has been described as the Glaciologists Bible.
