SMITH, Robert Angus. FRS

A Scottish analytical chemist b. Pollokshaws, Glasgow (1817-1884). He is famous for his research on air pollution and other environmental issues.  In 1852 he discovered and named acid rain, and is sometimes  referred to as the father of acid rain. In 1872 he published “Air and Rain: the Beginnings of a Chemical Climatology”.
