SMITH, Robert Angus. FRS

A Scottish analytical chemist b. Pollokshaws, Glasgow (1817-1884). He is famous for his research on air pollution and other environmental issues. ┬áIn 1852 he discovered and named acid rain, and is sometimes ┬áreferred to as the father of acid rain. In 1872 he published “Air and Rain: the Beginnings of a Chemical Climatology”.
