Campbell University, North Carolina, US

Founded in 1887 by James Archibald Campbell, initially as a community school, then following a number of transitions gained    university status in 1979.

 

Carnegie Mellon University, Pennsylvania, US.

Formed by merger of Carnegie Institute of Technology, founded by Scottish industrialist  Andrew Carnegie in 1900, and the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research, founded in 1913 by Andrew and Richard Mellon.

Dalhousie University

Founded in 1818 by George Ramsay, 9th Earl of Dalhousie, in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Marischal College, Aberdeen.

This ancient university college was founded in 1593 and merged in 1860 with Kings College Aberdeen to form the University of Aberdeen.

McGill University, Montreal, Canada

Founded by Glasgow born James McGill in 1821.

Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, BC

Established in 1965  on the recommendation of Dr J B MacDonald. It is named after Simon Fraser (1776-1862), a North West Company fur trader and explorer, born to Scottish parents in Mapletown NY.

University College London. The Scottish Connection

UCL, founded in 1825, was originally called the University of London and was modeled on the Scottish university system. Its two principle founders were Scots and the bulk of its early professors were either Scottish or educated in Scotland.

University of Aberdeen

An ancient university founded in 1495. It is Scotland’s third oldest university  and fifth oldest in the English speaking world. It was originally called Kings College although it always referred to itself as Aberdeen University. the current name became its formal title when it merged with Aberdeen’s other ancient university, Marischal College, in 1860.

University of Edinburgh

This ancient university, founded in 1582, is the sixth oldest university in the English speaking world.

University of Glasgow

This ancient university, founded in 1451, is the fourth oldest university in the English speaking world.

University of St Andrews

This ancient university was founded in Scotland in 1413 and is the third oldest university in the English speaking world.
