Founded in 1965, Ardtoe is an aquaculture research station which quickly gained an international reputation in the development of techniques for rearing species such as turbot, sole, cod, haddock, halibut, lobsters and scallops. In 2005 it was acquired by Viking Fish Farms Ltd which continues to carry out research while supplying commercial quantities of cod, haddock and turbot juveniles to fish farmers both at home and elsewhere.

The IoA is world leading institute with over 80 staff and 70 postgraduate students solely focused on research and teaching underpinning aquaculture.

Marine Scotland’s purpose is to manage Scotland’s seas for prosperity and environmental sustainability.

The only Halibut hatchery in the UK. It is also part owner, manager and supplier of stock to Gigha Halibut, a 200 tonne ongrowing farm.
