BAIRD, John Logie FRSE (1888-1946)

Born Helensburgh, Scotland. Television pioneer. First demonstrated true television in 1926; made first transatlantic transmission  and first demonstration of colour and stereoscopic TV in 1928. His system used by BBC 1929-37; showed big screen TV in 1930 and ultra-shortwave transmission in 1932.

REITH, John Charles Walsham KT, GCVO, GBE, CB, TD, PC (1889-1971)

Born Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He became the first Director General of the BBC, and established its principles of  equal consideration of all points of view, probity, universality and commitment to pubic service.
