COCHRANE,Thomas (1775-1860) Admiral RN

10th Earl of Dundonald, 1st Marquess of Maranhao. He was a dauntless officer with many successful naval actions to his name. During the Napoleonic Wars the French called him The Sea Wolf (Le Loup des Mers). He led the Chilean, Brazilian and Greek navies during their battles for independence from colonising powers. Considered by many to be the finest fighting Royal Navy officer of all time, he became the model for the dashing Jack Aubrey in Patrick O’Brien’s naval adventures.
